  • Insist on proper installation by insured dealers. Fort Hill sells a line of quality gas appliances. Please call our office to discuss your needs.
  • Routine preventive maintenance on all gas equipment can assure the safe and efficient operation of the equipment.
  • Keep all combustible materials away from natural gas appliances.
  • Install smoke detectors and maintain them properly.

Information About Natural Gas

  • Natural gas is lighter than air and it will rise and diffuse rapidly when it escapes in an open area. It should not be confused with liquefied petroleum gas (L.P., bottle gas, propane, butane) which is heavier than air and collects in low places when not confined.
  • Natural gas is neither toxic nor poisonous, but it can displace oxygen in an enclosed space. If you smell gas, leave the area immediately and call our office.
  • Natural gas is odorless, colorless, and tasteless in its natural state; therefore, an odorant is added to give it the distinctive odor of rotten eggs.
  • The ignition point of natural gas is 1100- 1200 degrees F. This temperature is reached by pilot lights, flint sparks, matches, or sparks from electrical switches or motors.
  • Contains approximately 1,000 BTU's per cubic foot.
  • Natural gas consists mainly of methane.

If You Suspect a Gas Leak:

  • Ventilate the area by opening windows and doors.
  • Do not operate light switches, door bells, phones or electrical appliances.
  • If you smell natural gas, leave the area immediately and call our office.
