Gas Has
Been Turned Off Due to Maintenance/Repair or Meter
Change.
In the event your gas
is turned off due to maintenance or repair, and you were not home,
our serviceman will tag your door. Please call one of our offices
to have your gas turned back on and pilots lit at no
charge.
If your gas was
turned off for a past due bill, please contact your local customer
service center information on reinstating the gas
service.
High Gas
Bill
If your gas bill
seems abnormally high, please take into account the number of days
in the billing cycle, the temperature during the billing cycle, and
the temperature setting on your thermostat. If after considering
these factors you feel there is an error, please call the
nearest Fort Hill Office and we will send someone out to verify that your meter is
functioning properly. There is a $50.00 charge for this service. If
there is a problem with the meter, we will waive the $50.00 fee.
This service is only available during regular business
hours.
Check Gas
Pressure
The gas pressure is
adjusted to the correct operating pressure when the gas meter is
installed. If you suspect a gas pressure problem, check other gas
appliances to see if they are working properly. If all gas
appliances are not affected, the problem is probably with the
appliance, rather than the gas pressure. If you need to have the
pressure checked, please call one of our offices. There is a $50.00
charge for this service during regular business hours. After hours,
weekends, and holidays there is a $75.00 charge. If we find a
problem with the gas pressure, we will correct the problem and
waive the service fee.
Carbon
Monoxide
Carbon monoxide is an
odorless toxic gas. It has no color or taste. Although it is a
flammable substance, the toxic effects of carbon monoxide are a
more serious problem than its flammability. Carbon monoxide occurs
as a result of incomplete combustion. To protect your home against
carbon monoxide make sure it is properly ventilated and that
chimneys, flues, and vent pipes are not blocked or cracked. Make
sure that all gas, oil, coal, and wood burning appliances work and
vent properly. Have a qualified professional inspect your heating
system.
Carbon Monoxide
detectors can detect small amounts of carbon monoxide and sound an
alarm before it builds up to a dangerous level. If you have a
carbon monoxide detector and the alarm sounds, leave the dwelling
immediately and call one of our offices or your local fire
department. Do not re-enter the structure until our serviceman or
the local fire department official tells you it is safe to do
so.
Meter
Change Program
Each year we are
required to select a certain number of our customer's meters to
change out and check for accuracy. These meters are sent thru our
meter shop for testing and painting. We do not change meters during
winter months if at all possible.
If your meter has
been changed out, and you were not at home, our serviceman will tag
your door. Please contact one of our offices so that we can turn
the gas back on and re-light any pilots. There is not charge for
this service.
Customer
guidelines for Meter Installations:
Residential Pressure Test
All customers gas
piping (which is located downstream of the meter) must be installed
and have an air test (20 psi for 20 minutes) and a Fort Hill
service representative must witness this test before we can install
the meter. For commercial installations, call our service
department for the pressure test requirements.
Codes
All gas appliances
and customer piping must be installed according to the manufactures
installations instructions and International fuel Gas Code. Fort
Hill's service representative must have escorted access to the
inside of the house or building to inspect the installation if
there are any appliances inside. Before installing 2psi gas piping
systems on commercial, business, and multi-family dwellings, please
contact our service department. There are some limitations that
apply on these piping systems.
Insured Dealer
For our records,
please provide us with the name of the insured dealer who is installing your customer piping and or
appliances. The insured dealer will call Fort hill for our
inspection and meter after the installation has been completed.
Anderson and Oconee counties require a permit for the building
codes department. After the Fort Hill service representative
approves the installation, he will install the meter. The insured
dealer is then responsible for connecting the customer piping to
the meter and starting the gas appliances.
Liability Release
For our records,
property owners who choose to install their own gas appliances are
required to sign a liability release statement. These installations
are subject to the same rules and regulations as dealer installed
appliances and must be inspected by our service department. After
the Fort Hill service representative approves the installation, he
will install the meter. The property owner will be responsible for
connecting their piping to the meter and starting the gas
appliances.
